We wish your electric tankless water heater a long life. Most brands on the market offer a 1-year warranty to cover the parts and 5-year warranty on the heat exchanger. Warranties are meant to reflect the expected lifetime of the product, that's why we offer a 25 year warranty. Unless your tankless is Optimal°, it’s not expected to last long.
The main failure point in electric tankless products is the flow sensor. It’s a spinning paddle that regularly gets stuck, or the electronics get corroded from water intrusion. In most cases, they are not serviceable in the field, so if (or when) it fails after a year, you’ll have to buy a whole new heater. This is an example of built-in obsolescence, or planned failure. That’s not optimal.

The Optimal residential warranty covers the heat exchanger and the parts (excluding the elements) for 25-years. We want this to be the last water heater you’ll ever need. Element scaling from hard water is not covered by the warranty. Regular maintenance by flushing the unit is strongly encouraged in areas of hard water.
Optimal diagnostics include a function that recognizes when the elements are losing their heating power so users can avoid further damage and our support team can more easily assist with any resolutions. With the Opti+ wireless models, this information can be accessed directly from the Opti App.
